SHACKAMAXON STREET
From: Live at Tin Angel (1993)
Copyright © 1983 Tom Gala

That old Shackamaxon Street sugar refinery
It's just a place by the river
Where I sometimes go
Every season just floats by
The channel's filled with broken ice
Today's the day that winter finally let go
Today's the day that winter let go

There are swollen buds on the poplar trees
On that worn-out pier at Noble Street
There are no winter shadows on the red warehouse wall
Like half-forgotten make-believe
Old sorrow, nonsense, lies and grief
The sharp frozen boulders they go down to the sea
Let 'em all go out and down to the sea

I've waited
I've waited so long for the springtime
I've waited for the love in your eyes
I've waited
I've waited so long for the springtime
I've waited for the love in your eyes

That old Shackamaxon Street sugar refinery
It's just a place by the river
Where I sometimes go
Every season just floats by
The channel's deep and the tide looks high
Today's the day that wintertime finally let go
Today's the day that winter let go
