SOMETIMES I WALK THE ALLEY

Description: Guitar
Sometimes I walk the sidewalk
On Sunday afternoons
And look at all the houses
Here on Francis Avenue
Where someone trims the bushes
Someone sweeps the steps
Someone paints the shutters
Someone feeds the pets
And polishes the pickups
That are showcased in the drive
Where the flowers in their planters
Are forced into a smile
Sometimes I walk the sidewalk
Sometimes I walk the alley
When I'm on my way home
And look at the same houses
From the back side of the road
And there's cracks in the foundations
And the rooves sag from the rains
And the weeds reach through the fences
And the dogs lunge from their chains
Where the old cars sit abandoned
With their fenders rusting through
But where the random daisies
Bloom just because they do
Sometimes I walk the alley, just to see
Just to see
Sometimes I walk the sidewalk
Sometimes I walk the alley
Sometimes I walk the sidewalk
But I seem to like the alley
