THE OLD COUNTRY
Copyright © Susan Werner
Description: Guitar

Sometimes, sometimes late at night
When the moon's exactly right
The wind comes whispering to me
I think about the old country
The country I left years ago
Why I left I shouldn't know
The same as all through history
Times were hard in the old country

So I came here all by myself
To this untamed commonwealth
Where one common thing was understood
Get it all while the getting's good
Yeah get it all before they come
Before they come and ask for some
For some of our new prosperity
But we don't share here like in the old country

And I have two sisters tall and fair
I have two sisters, I left them there
Named Patience and Integrity
I left them both in the old country
And now and then I drift away
And I dream they'll come find me someday
And we'll live together happy all three
Like we did in the old country

Yes it must seem my life's gone well
It's gone well from what anyone could tell
All these emerald fields are mine
Land to the horizon line
But sometimes, sometimes late at night
When the moon's exactly right
The wind comes whispering to me
And I think about the old country
