GENTLEMAN
Copyright © Susan Werner
Description: Guitar

It's late at night, it's pouring rain
And he is meeting someone coming home by plane
He checks the clock, he checks his tie
He checks the hint of desperation in his eye
And the bouquet in his left hand
Is not the ordinary kind, you understand
One of the proud, one of the few
There is a gentleman in love with you

He twists his ring and shifts his weight
Somehow you're always running twenty minutes late
He rubs his chin and walks the floor
He wanders by the bar to catch the final score
He chilled the wine, turned down the bed
And he has you and only you inside his head
One wonders if you even knew
You have a gentleman in love with you

And as the world spins around and apart
Things stay thank God the same
And if the world invades your heart
Some things thank God remain

When you arrive he'll fight a grin
Then he'll open up those arms and take you in
He is a prince, a very prize
One of those truly Harry Truman-era guys
So light your smile and brush your hair
And put a little thought into the things you wear
It is the least that you can do
You have a gentleman
The rarest gentleman
A real live gentleman in love with you
